John Philpott is a Deputy District Attorney for the County of San Diego. He has been a criminal prosecutor for over 27 years. John is currently assigned to the Cold Case Homicide Unit.
He has a J.D. and an M.B.A. from the University of San Diego. Prior to becoming a prosecutor, John was a civil litigator for over 5 years.
John was the Chief of the San Diego D.A.’s Insurance Fraud & Workplace Justice Division for several years. He also served in that Division as Assistant Chief, Major Case Specialist, and Team Leader.
He was cross designated as an Assistant United States Attorney for 3 years on a major insurance fraud kickback case.
John has taught on a wide variety of insurance fraud topics for many agencies, including the California Department of Insurance, National Insurance Crime Bureau, International Association of Special Investigation Units, Southern California Fraud Investigators Association, Anti-Fraud Alliance, California District Attorneys Association, and Coalition Against Insurance Fraud.
