Fraudulent practices are commonly encountered in pain management, surgical, physical therapy, and chiropractic clinics across the nation. The improper use of EMGs is just one example and is responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars in inappropriate health care spending. Not only do these practices submit fraudulent charges to insurance carriers, but they provide substandard care to patients and put them at unnecessary risk. Dr. Levin will explain the basics of EMG tests, guidelines and position statements from the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and common fraudulent EMG practices. Attendees will learn to identify improper EMG practices and how these scams are being used to drive up the value of liability and workers’ compensation cases. Attendees will learn to spot inappropriate use of EMG tests in order to be able to combat them effectively.
